After Bocelli and Westenra this year, now another classical crossover singer will visit to Jakarta. Wales tenor Russell Watson will make his first performance here in collaboration with David Foster. The show is set to be hold in October 28.
Other singers joined the hitmaker David are R&B singer Ashanti, Michael Bolton, pinoy singer Charice, and among other to-be-confirmed stars.

Aired by UK's ITV, this show is not just an ordinary singing talent show. Starting this early of June, the show challenges some famous pop star to sing in an operatic way. Every week each of the eight popstars will sing arias from some famous opera numbers. The panel of judges will include crossover violinist Vanessa Mae, actor Simon Callow, mezzo soprano Katherine Jenkins and tenor Rolando Villazon (who both are also mentoring the contestants).
Despite of critiques from the opera insiders (which judging the show as the opera abuser), this show still has some an essence point to take. "I think it's a good thing that 'opera' is being presented in a prime-time slot," Welsh acclaimed tenor, Russell Watson supports. He adds "I've been a huge supporter of popularising this genre. Long may it continue." I'm with you Mr Watson. I think this show helps interpreting opera (as enjoyable music applicable to everyone no matter how old you are) into the wider audiences, especially to pop listeners.

Such a big deal for these Angels to take this job: singing at the Champion League Final (match of Manchester United def. Barcelona) With thousand eyes watching at the Wembley Stadium, and 160 million viewers watching on their television, All Angels have already taken the world by storm.
Most of All Angels members (except Rachel) Melanie, Daisy, Charlotte, were on their exam week when they got prepared for the big event. But they were way too exicted for singing in such an internationally-known sport event. They tweeted: Saturday evening is drawing nearer! Exams will soon be over too! BRING ON SATURDAY! :-) R xxx
At the event, All Angels sang the famous Champion League theme song (the one which inspired by Handel's "Zadok The Priest" arrangement). But they added some version of their own. Actually, it was an unexpected offer for them to sing there. They just got the project just weeks before the event went on. It was their "Starlight" EP producer, Matt Clifford, who used to made a commercial jingle. He lend the project to the girls. Fyi, in champion league final 2009, Andrea Bocelli was asked to sing the theme too.
As the big fan of them, I was really excited about the performance. First time to watch them LIVE via my local TV. Unfortunately, the camera wasn't so friendly to the girls. As I watched it, I could barely see the face of four members. The cameras were too busy taking all football players' faces. But, I could still hear they sang. Their version of the theme song was beautiful though. I think they should put it on their upcoming album or iTunes by now :)

Okay, I can assume that last Sunday was the first time for Jakarta to see Hayley Westenra perform. Perhaps, It was audiences' first time to hear Hayley sing. No one knows her, until her "Amazing Grace" blown their mind away.

So far, I've seen some albums like 'Pure', 'Odyssey', 'Winter Magic', 'River of Dreams: The Best of Hayley Westenra', which a national-released, are available in local store (Duta Suara, Beatz!, Disc Tarra). Imported CDs, like 'Celtic Treasure' and 'Hayley Sings Japanese Songs' are available too but in rare numbers.
May 15 2011 looks so surreal for me. On that day, (who knows) I'm gonna attend a concert of the most-ever-multi talented slash world renowned (pop) opera figure, ANDREA BOCELLI. Not just that, he brings my fav. crossover soprano HAYLEY WESTENRA too. Two words : more surreal!

I think this is the first concert of internationally-known classical musician I ever attend to since it's a very rare event in Jakarta (this kind of music - some says but not for me - is very segmented, just for wealth people), and the ticket price is shockingly crazy (even the price of cheap seat can cost you a Blackberry device). Years before, Jakarta also welcomed same genra artist, like Sarah Brigtman (Bocelli long-time singing partner), vocal quartet Il Divo. Prior to the expensive ticket, I was absence to attend those gigs.
But it's different story for me when Bocelli & Hayley Westenra were planned to come. Bocelli is like an inspiration for me and Hayley has been my music crush since her debut in 2003. I live in Hayley's music for about eight years, I grew with her five studio albums, I breath by wathing tons of her video on YouTube, showing her performed in front of The Queen & Royal family, former US president, The Pope, Mandela or dueting with other music stars, from Il Divo to Ronan Keating. Really a misserable for my whole-life, if I skip their one-in-lifetime Jakarta appearance. That's why, just days before the concert, I already got the ticket. Platinum seat (no one wants to know about the crazy price. and how I got it. I can assure you. hha). It's a must-to-watch show man!

Perhelatan yang ditunggu para pecinta musik klasik akhirnya digelar juga. Classical Brits Award diselenggarakan untuk kedua belas kalinya Kamis (12/5) di Royal Albert Hall, London.
Dibuka oleh The Duchess of Cornwall (Camilla Parker Bowles), acara ini didedikasikan bagi para insan musik klasik, baik mereka yang menekuni genre murni musik klasik (tradisional/konvensional) hingga main-stream (klasikpop/crossover/kontemporer). Mengingat diperhitungkannya juga crossover di penghargaan ini, muka-muka 'fresh', atau 'now-generation' kerap terlihat baik sebagai nominator maupun performer di malam itu. Sebut saja gitaris Milos Karadaglic, mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins, All Angels, Isabel, komposer muda Eric Whitacre meramaikan nominasi dan panggung penampilan diantara nama-nama pemain lama seperti Aled Jones, Antonio Pappano, Andre Rieu, Bryn Terfel. Music plays the biggest role in such major games. Remeber when our badminton player Susi Susanti broke in tears as the national anthem "Indonesia Raya" played while she stood in the podium, holding the gold medal she got in 1992 World Olympics? Pretty emotional right.
Regardless of the "emotional" part, let's take a look at musicality sides of the national anthems. The Art Desk gives their picks about the most terrible national anthems ever made. Five national anthems, the worst. However, they don't give any exact reasons about their lists.
Talking about the upcoming Olympics, the game will be held in London UK this 2012. Unfortunately, the London Philharmonic Orchestra will be the host to record -in 60 gruelling recording hours for six days- the 205 national anthems, including the most irritated ones below:

Craving for radio station that plays classical music 24/7?
I found one. It's Classic FM. It is a London-based radio station playing classical music ranging widely from the traditional one to now-classical-crossover music. Began to air since 1992, Classic FM now becomes one of the prestige radio station in UK or I can say a mecca for classical music. The radio also runs a magazine with the same name.
They have many interesting program, like now I'm listening to: The A-Z of Classical Music, a program where musician (basically not from Classical area) plays their favorite Classical piece. For today's edition, Alex James (known as the bassist of the alternative-genre band, The Blur) shares his favorite.
Since it's airing from UK, while we're in Indonesia, we can stream it live via internet. You just go to classicfm.co.uk Don't forget to sign up for a membership.
Here comes the best. On the website, you can also find the full playlist of songs they've played on the radio, completed with the composer, conductor, ensemble, record label and the catalog of the songs. For me, it is very helpful when I want to get some info to buy the CD.

So, let's hope someday Indonesia has a radio station that dedicates 24/7 for classical music, and of course our traditional songs.
Fyi, actually we have already had one. But not a radio station, but a program called 'EA Classic', Aired in Delta FM in 99,1fm, it's running every sunday night at eight, and hosted by Indonesian composer Ananda Sukaralan & trumpeter -also conductor, Eric Awuy. Hoping the program will expand into a classical radio station someday :)
What will happen if the Jonas Brothers meet The Three Tenors?
Meet Il Volo. Originally from Italy, these three young-fresh-faced boys with big tenor voice are Pierre Barone (17), Ignazio Boschetto (16) and Gianluca Ginoble (16). Physically, they look like the Jonas (they are not blood related however), but vocaly they sing like The Three Tenors.
Their first also self-titled album, released November 2010, went platinum in Italy. Well, I think, not only Italians will go crazy about them, the world will also be enchanted by their voice. Really unusual, kids in their age have such a big voice compared to Josh Groban even the senior like the three tenors. Their single, 'O Sole Mio' (one of favorite classical aria sung by many performers) is so terribly enchanting. I can say this song is 'complicated' to sing, with technique difficulties in vocal dynamics, but these boys sang it so much easier. Mixed with cross-over ambience (drum beat), this song and rest songs of the album, made classical music friendly to ones in their age. Other songs featured in this album like 'Per-Te', Michael Jackson's 'Smile' and vocal version of Saint Saens' 'The Swan'.
With big voice they got, and success already they had backhome in Itally, now the boys are ready to invade the world, backed by internationally well-known label, Geffen Records (Universal Music). I hope their album 'Il Volo' will arrive in Indonesia very soon.

World's largest online choir finally launched. This is the second time (see the first Virtual Choir here) that Eric Whitacre, conductor and composer, throw a project that involves both classical music and technology to mix in one. 'Virtual Choir 2.0' premiered last Thursday April 7 on TED Conference in New York City. In this project, Eric made 2051 people from 58 countries to submit their video, singing his famous composing of 'Sleep', in YouTube.
Eric told CNN about this fun yet emerging project "It's real voices and it's quite beautiful and genuine. It's just fun to do. Millions and millions of people all over the world sing together in choirs and I guess now their voices are finally being heard."
Eric has signed a record deal with Decca with his album 'Light & Gold' success in the market. Since its releasing, 'Light & Gold' topped many expert music charts in US & UK, including Billboard top classical album.
As I mentioned above, there are more than 2000 voices from 58 countries participating in this project, including Indonesia. See what our Indonesian fellows have got:

No glam singer. No famous rock band too. Only choir singing for the most anticipated royal wedding.
I am officially William-Kate fans now. Not only the excitement they brought to the world, but also their simplicity for so-called wedding of the year that impress me. When some people expect that the young couple might throw some fancy glam-singer studded wedding, they want some conservative stuff going on. For the ceremony itself, held April 29 in the Abbey, they choose boys choir to sing the hymns.
The Choir of Westminster Abbey will accompany the royal wedding service.
The Choir of Westminster Abbey and The Chapel Royal Choir, along with London Chamber Orchestra and a fanfare team from the Royal Air Force Band, will be featured in the ceremony in the Abbey. The palace said that William and his fiancee "have taken a great deal of interest and care in choosing the music for their service," which will include well-known hymns and choral works as well as pieces commissioned especially for the occasion.
Surprisingly, the hymns sung by the The Choir of Westminster Abbey will be live recorded into an album. "The Royal Wedding - The Official Wedding" will be expected to release in May 3rd, just four days after the wedding. Pre-order here in iTunes
Prince William and his soon-to-be wife Kate Middleton are taking a great deal in choosing music for their upcoming wedding service in April 29.

"Song For Athene". Composed by John Tavener. A best work by this British composer. Originally this piece was made in 1993 dedicated to his friend, Athene Hariades, who was killed in an accident. And dramatically this song was also performed in the late Princess Diana's funeral in 1997.

What's on my head when hear this piece is I imagine Princess Diana's soul enter the gate of heaven, accompanying by the angels' singing this song. And when it comes: "Come, enjoy rewards" and so on, is that Diana is really deserved the rewards that God's prepared after everything she has done for humanity. Giving her life a 100% for charity.
It's like a sudden sob wants to coke me as how I'm very amazed how the light of God welcoming the Princess..

Satu kata "Takjub".
Virtual Choir adalah paduan suara yang para anggotanya ditemukan di dalam dunia maya. Mereka menyanyikan sebuah lagu yang sudah ditentukan sesuai dengan jenis suara, merekamnya, lalu meng-upload-nya di YouTube. Sang konduktor sendiri memberikan arahan dan memimpin paduan suara tersebut via YouTube. Setelah itu dikombinasikan menjadi satu kesatuan.
Perkenalkan pioner proyek ini: Eric Whitacre. Eric adalah seorang komposer dan dirigen muda yang berada di belakang proyek ini. Terinspirasi oleh acara "Lollipop" di MTV, Eric ingin membuat suatu terobosan baru dalam berpaduan suara. Munculah ide "Virtual Choir".
Virtual Choir yang pertama menampilkan 158 "anggota paduan suara" terbagi atas 8 jenis suara dari 12 negara menyanyikan lagu 'Lux Aurumque' (Light & Gold) gubahan Eric Whitacre sendiri. Tak disangka, video ini sudah memiliki 1,9 juta hit (view) di YouTube.

Kawan, Hari Jumat ini (11/06) akan diadakan “Malam Apresiasi” yang diselenggrakan oleh panitia renovasi gedung gereja GPIB Jemaat PATMOS. Acara ini diadakan dalam rangka ucapan-terima kasih panitia atas partisipasi kawan semua yang telah menyumbangkan sebagaian berkatnya untuk membantu pengrenovasian gedung gereja GPIB Jemaat PATMOS di Tangerang.
“Malam Apresiasi” ini sendiri akan didukung oleh ‘duet’ maut Benny dan Berry Likumahua dkk :)

Tentang GPIB Jemaat “Patmos” dan Pengrenovasiannya… (Seperti yang dikutip dari lembar undangan “Malam ‘Apresiasi”)
“Mari, membangun bersama…”
Rumah Ibadah GPIB Patmos telah hadir di Pondok Rejeko, Kutabaru Tangerang, sejak tahun 1991. Sejak dilembagakannya pada tahun 1998, kami menggunakan ruang seluas 135 m2, diatas tanah 368 m2, sebagai tempat satu-satunya untuk melaksanakan semua kegiatan. Ibadah Hari Minggu dan pembinaan, pertemuan/rapat, serta kegiatan lain di luar hari Minggu, terpusat di gereja dengan menggunakan ruang yang sama. Syukurlah pada tahun 2009, dengan pertolongan Tuhan, kami boleh membangun ruang baru untuk kegiatan Pelayanan Anak/ Teruna, juga ruang sekretariat/kantor.
Betapa kami merindukan peningkatan dan perbaikan sarana, yang diharapkan akan menopang kegiatan persekutuan, pelayanan dan kesaksian jemaat. Karenanya, kami ingin membangun dan mempersiapkan beberapa ruang terpisah untuk setiap kegiatan. Kami juga rindu memiliki ruang khusus untuk beribadah, dimana kenyamanan, ketertiban dan hikmatnya beribadah dapat diwujudkan.
Perbaikan/pembangunan gedung gereja, penambahan dan pembagian ruang-ruang secara menyeluruh, diperkirakan membutuhkan dana Rp. 1.500.000.000 (satu setengah milyar rupiah); yang dalam rencananya dibagi dalam tiga tahap pembangunan. Saat ini, kami sedang berada di tahap pertama, dengan kebutuhan dana kurang lebih Rp. 500.000.000 (lima ratus juta rupiah).
Persediaan dana sebesar itu tidak mungkin dapat tersedia tanpa pertolongan dan hikmat Tuhan. Dengan kesadaran inilah, kami mengadakan kegiatan pencarian dan penggalangan dana. Kami pun percaya, Tuhan akan turut bekerja dalam segala sesuatu, sehingga hati banyak orang – termasuk anda, tergerak untuk menjadi dermawan yang peduli akan kebutuhan kami. Selanjutnya, dengan senang dan tulus hati ikut berbagi peran dalam mendukung usaha ini. Demikianlah Anda ikut membangun bersama.

Tentang “Malam Apresiasi” Diadakan di Mahogany Ballroom Hotel Imperial Aryaduta, Lippo Village, pada hari Jumat (11/06) pukul 19.00 WIB. Acara akan didukung oleh penampilan Benny dan Barry Likumahua dkk serta Corr Tetelepta.

It turns out that there will be a new version of “We Are the World”
The song writer, Lionel Richie and the producer fellow musician Quincy Jones, announced that the rearranged-song would be released in order to help Haiti relief after devastative quake hit the poorest country in western-hemisphere. Also to remark the 25th anniversary of this song, artists of musicians and some actors confirmed to join this charity: Celine Dion to Justin Bieber, Rihanna to Vince Vaughn, and Jason Mraz to already Golden Globe and SAG winner Jeff Bridges, also Usher with Barbara Streisand were resembled together in this music-relief. The recording took place in Kermit Studio, L.A., a day after Grammy night last weekend.
The brand new “We Are The World” is due during the opening of 2010 Winter Olympics this mid February.
